Brand Designer

Position:
Brand Designer
Location:
Amsterdam
Type:
Onsite

About the role

As a Brand Designer at Brandora you own how a brand looks and, more importantly, why it looks that way. You will build identity systems from the mark outward -- type ramps, colour rules, layout grids and the guidance that keeps twenty people using them the same way. This is a role for someone who enjoys the constraint as much as the concept, and who can defend a decision to a client without reaching for the word "clean".

What you'll do every day

Most days are a mix of drawing and deciding. You will develop identity concepts, refine marks through more rounds than anyone enjoys, extend a system into the applications that will actually be used, and write the short rules that stop it drifting. You will present to clients, take the notes that are right and argue the ones that are not, and work beside the strategist and the web team so the identity survives contact with a real product.

Responsibilities

  • Develop identity concepts from a written strategy, not from a moodboard alone.
  • Design and refine marks, type ramps, colour systems and layout grids.
  • Extend systems into packaging, environment, social and product surfaces.
  • Write and maintain the brand guidelines the client's team will use.
  • Present work to clients and hold the reasoning behind it.
  • Keep the studio's own design system in good order.

Qualifications

  • A portfolio of identity work you can talk through decision by decision.
  • Fluency in Figma and a working knowledge of production for print.
  • Real typographic judgement, including at small sizes.
  • Experience building systems rather than one-off artefacts.
  • Comfort working to a strategy written by somebody else.

Who we're looking for

Someone who draws quickly and edits slowly. You are as interested in the twelfth version as the first, you notice when a spacing scale has drifted, and you would rather ship a smaller system that holds than a larger one that does not. Studio or in-house experience are equally welcome; what matters is that you have handed a system to somebody else and watched it survive.

Skills and expertise

Identity design, typography, colour systems, layout, guideline authoring, packaging and print production. You are confident in Figma, comfortable in Illustrator, and able to prepare files that a printer will not phone you about.

Why join us

Brandora is small enough that your work is visible and structured enough that it ships. You will see projects from the first conversation to the launch rather than inheriting a brief and handing off a file. We work across industries on purpose, we protect focus time, and we would rather you left at six having done something good than stayed until nine doing something adequate. Reviews are quarterly, salary bands are written down, and there is a real budget for the conference or the course you keep meaning to go to.
